Hishaam Ismael, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in surgical oncology. He performs cancer related surgeries, specifically those affecting the hepatobiliary system – liver, pancreas, bile ducts and gallbladder.
Dr. Ismael completed his hepatopancreatobiliary surgery fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, his general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and his general surgery internship at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
As part of the UT Health East Texas HOPE Cancer Center team, Dr. Ismael frequently performs surgeries for colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, small bowel carcinoid/neuroendocrine tumors, pancreas cancer, liver and gallbladder cancer, lymphoma with intra-abdominal tumors and liporsacomas. He also performs port placements and removals, lymph node biopsies and adrenalectomies. He utilizes minimally invasive techniques along with intra-operative ultrasonography for better outcomes.
While focusing on surgical oncology, Dr. Ismael continues to care for patients with general surgery needs such as gallbladder removal, hernia repair and more.
Dr. Ismael is employed as a clinical faculty physician at The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center under the UT Tyler School of Medicine.
