Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment option for wounds, infections or injuries that have not responded to standard treatment. Treatment is given in a tube-like chamber. The chamber will fill with oxygen under pressure, a similar feeling to being on an airplane. This allows the oxygen in your bloodstream to be raised to levels that can’t be achieved any other way, helping to heal wounds, infections and injuries. It is most effective when given on a regular basis, usually daily, like an antibiotic, and treatments usually last about two hours.
