Umair Sohail, MD, is a gastroenterologist who practices at UT Health East Texas Physicians Tyler. He earned his medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College, in his homeland of Pakistan. “Coming from a family of engineers, with no one in the medical profession, I diverted from the prescribed route.”
After internal medicine training in Missouri, he did a transplant hepatology fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, followed by another fellowship in gastroenterology-hepatology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he was chief gastroenterology fellow. “The discipline of gastroenterology combines the skills of surgery with the critical thinking of internal medicine.”
Dr. Sohail provides diagnosis and treatment of complex gastroenterology and liver-related diseases, and performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He is also a co-author of a gastroenterology textbook and has written for medical journals. “I strive to provide excellent care through patient education, dedication and compassion.”
