Hope Speed, APRN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at UT Health East Texas Physicians Tyler. She works primarily with board-certified gastroenterologist, Umair Sohail, MD, to treat patients of all ages for a wide range of digestive disorders, including nausea, diarrhea, constipation, ulcers, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, cirrhosis and acid reflux. “I’m very aware of each patient and their needs, which comes from being a good listener and caring about each patient’s needs. I want to make an impact on my patients’ lives and give them a better quality of living.”
Speed, who likes to take a hands-on approach to medicine, worked as a paramedic and registered nurse before deciding to earn her advanced practice degree. “I wanted to be more involved in making decisions in patient care. As a nurse practitioner, I can actually make a diagnosis and treat the problem.
